2023-10-02refactor(npm): make `NpmCache`, `CliNpmRegistryApi`, and `NpmResolution` ↵David Sherret
internal to `npm::managed` (#20764)
2023-09-30refactor(npm): create `cli::npm::managed` module (#20740)David Sherret
Creates the `cli::npm::managed` module and starts moving more functionality into it.
2023-09-29refactor(cli): make `CliNpmResolver` a trait (#20732)David Sherret
This makes `CliNpmResolver` a trait. The terminology used is: - **managed** - Deno manages the node_modules folder and does an auto-install (ex. `ManagedCliNpmResolver`) - **byonm** - "Bring your own node_modules" (ex. `ByonmCliNpmResolver`, which is in this PR, but unimplemented at the moment) Part of #18967
2023-09-28refactor(ext/node): remove dependency on deno_npm and deno_semver (#20718)David Sherret
This is required from BYONM (bring your own node_modules). Part of #18967
2023-09-18fix(cli): for main-module that exists in package.json, use the version ↵await-ovo
defined in package.json directly (#20328)
2023-08-24refactor: use "deno_config" crate (#20260)Bartek Iwańczuk
Moved the configuration file to https://github.com/denoland/deno_config as we will have to use it in other projects.
2023-08-17fix(unstable): disable importing from the vendor directory (#20067)David Sherret
Some people might get think they need to import from this directory, which could cause confusion and duplicate dependencies. Additionally, the `vendor` directory has special behaviour in the language server, so importing from the folder will definitely cause confusion and issues there.
2023-08-16feat(ext/node): eagerly bootstrap node (#20153)Matt Mastracci
To fix bugs around detection of when node emulation is required, we will just eagerly initialize it. The improvements we make to reduce the impact of the startup time: - [x] Process stdin/stdout/stderr are lazily created - [x] node.js global proxy no longer allocates on each access check - [x] Process checks for `beforeExit` listeners before doing expensive shutdown work - [x] Process should avoid adding global event handlers until listeners are added Benchmarking this PR (`89de7e1ff`) vs main (`41cad2179`) ``` 12:36 $ third_party/prebuilt/mac/hyperfine --warmup 100 -S none './deno-41cad2179 run ./empty.js' './deno-89de7e1ff run ./empty.js' Benchmark 1: ./deno-41cad2179 run ./empty.js Time (mean ± σ): 24.3 ms ± 1.6 ms [User: 16.2 ms, System: 6.0 ms] Range (min … max): 21.1 ms … 29.1 ms 115 runs Benchmark 2: ./deno-89de7e1ff run ./empty.js Time (mean ± σ): 24.0 ms ± 1.4 ms [User: 16.3 ms, System: 5.6 ms] Range (min … max): 21.3 ms … 28.6 ms 126 runs ``` Fixes https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/20142 Fixes https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/15826 Fixes https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/20028
2023-08-08refactor: use deno_cache_dir crate (#20092)David Sherret
Uses https://github.com/denoland/deno_cache/pull/26
2023-08-06feat(unstable): rename `deno_modules` to `vendor` (#20065)David Sherret
Renames the unstable `deno_modules` directory and corresponding settings to `vendor` after feedback. Also causes the vendoring of the `node_modules` directory which can be disabled via `--node-modules-dir=false` or `"nodeModulesDir": false`.
2023-08-02feat(unstable): optional `deno_modules` directory (#19977)David Sherret
Closes #15633
2023-07-27fix: error on invalid & unsupported jsx compiler options (#19954)David Sherret
2023-07-24refactor(ext/node): CjsCodeAnalyzer - analyze_cjs optionally pass source ↵David Sherret

2023-07-19feat(ext/node): properly segregate node globals (#19307)Luca Casonato
Code run within Deno-mode and Node-mode should have access to a slightly different set of globals. Previously this was done through a compile time code-transform for Node-mode, but this is not ideal and has many edge cases, for example Node's globalThis having a different identity than Deno's globalThis. This commit makes the `globalThis` of the entire runtime a semi-proxy. This proxy returns a different set of globals depending on the caller's mode. This is not a full proxy, because it is shadowed by "real" properties on globalThis. This is done to avoid the overhead of a full proxy for all globalThis operations. The globals between Deno-mode and Node-mode are now properly segregated. This means that code running in Deno-mode will not have access to Node's globals, and vice versa. Deleting a managed global in Deno-mode will NOT delete the corresponding global in Node-mode, and vice versa. --------- Co-authored-by: Bartek Iwańczuk <biwanczuk@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Aapo Alasuutari <aapo.alasuutari@gmail.com>
2023-07-02Reland "fix(cli): don't store blob and data urls in the module cache" (#18581)Nayeem Rahman
Relands #18261 now that https://github.com/lucacasonato/esbuild_deno_loader/pull/54 is landed and used by fresh. Fixes #18260.
2023-06-14fix: reload config files on watcher restarts (#19487)David Sherret
Closes #19468
2023-06-10chore(tests): test_util - Add `PathRef` (#19450)David Sherret
This adds a new `PathRef` struct to test_util for making it easier to work with paths in test code. I'm going to expand on this more in the future.
2023-06-08refactor(compile): store the npm snapshot in the eszip (#19343)David Sherret
2023-06-07refactor: helpers methods on `TypeCheckMode` (#19393)David Sherret
2023-06-06perf(cli): conditionally load typescript declaration files (#19392)David Sherret
Closes #18583
2023-05-30feat(runtime): add `WorkerLogLevel` (#19316)David Sherret
This is not really used yet, but provides some infrastructure for doing more fine grained logging in JS. I will add warn messages in a future PR.
2023-05-25fix(compile): handle when DENO_DIR is readonly (#19257)David Sherret
Closes #19253
2023-05-22fix(npm): store npm binary command resolution in lockfile (#19219)David Sherret
Part of #19038 Closes #19034 (eliminates the time spent re-resolving)
2023-05-19feat(vendor): support for npm specifiers (#19186)David Sherret
We never properly added support for this. This fixes vendoring when it has npm or node specifiers. Vendoring occurs by adding a `"nodeModulesDir": true` property to deno.json then it uses a local node_modules directory. This can be opted out by setting `"nodeModulesDir": false` or running with `--node-modules-dir=false`. Closes #18090 Closes #17210 Closes #17619 Closes #16778
2023-05-17fix(npm): improved optional dependency support (#19135)David Sherret
Note: If the package information has already been cached, then this requires running with `--reload` or for the registry information to be fetched some other way (ex. the cache busting). Closes #15544 --------- Co-authored-by: Bartek Iwańczuk <biwanczuk@gmail.com>
2023-05-10feat(compile): unstable npm and node specifier support (#19005)David Sherret
This is the initial support for npm and node specifiers in `deno compile`. The npm packages are included in the binary and read from it via a virtual file system. This also supports the `--node-modules-dir` flag, dependencies specified in a package.json, and npm binary commands (ex. `deno compile --unstable npm:cowsay`) Closes #16632
2023-05-05refactor(ext/node): combine `deno_node::Fs` with `deno_fs::FileSystem` (#18991)David Sherret
2023-05-04refactor(ext/fs): boxed deno_fs::FileSystem (#18945)David Sherret
1. Boxed `File` and `FileSystem` to allow more easily passing this through the CLI code (as shown within this pr). 2. `StdFileResource` is now `FileResource`. `FileResource` now contains an `Rc<dyn File>`.
2023-05-01perf: lazily create RootCertStore (#18938)David Sherret
2023-05-01refactor(cli): remove ProcState - add CliFactory (#18900)David Sherret
This removes `ProcState` and replaces it with a new `CliFactory` which initializes our "service structs" on demand. This isn't a performance improvement at the moment for `deno run`, but might unlock performance improvements in the future.
